Patch Testing
Last updated: November 2025
Why we patch test
Your safety is our priority. Some colour products can cause allergic reactions, even if you’ve had colour before. A quick, free patch test helps us confirm suitability before your appointment.
Who needs a patch test?
- All new colour clients at Hairven.
- Existing clients who haven’t had colour with us in the last 6 months.
- If your health status has changed (e.g. skin sensitivity, medications) since your last colour.
When & where
- Please visit the salon for a patch test at least 48 hours before your colour service.
- No appointment needed — it only takes a minute. We’ll note the date/time on your client record.
What happens
- We apply a small amount of colour product behind your ear or on your inner arm.
- Leave it undisturbed for 45 minutes, then gently remove at home.
- Monitor the area for 48 hours for redness, itching, swelling or irritation.
If you react
If you notice any irritation or discomfort, please wash the area with mild soap and water and contact us. We’ll advise alternatives (e.g. different formulas, strand tests, or non-colour services). Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or are severe.
Important notes
- We may decline a colour service if a valid patch test has not been completed at least 48 hours beforehand.
- Pregnancy/breastfeeding: please let us know so we can advise suitable options.
- Please remove earrings for behind-the-ear tests and avoid covering the area with makeup or creams during the 48 hours.
